Working at Height Module 2 - Safe Work at Height (General Operative)

Course Duration: 1 Day - 6 Guided Learning Hours

Course Locations: Manchester, Rainham & Wellingborough.

ESS are also able to offer Nationwide onsite Training subject to availability and necessary approvals.

Course Aims

This course is suitable for operatives required to Work at Height, and will give operatives a sound foundation on the requirements of the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and other relevant regulations. Also highlights the principles of how fall protection systems / equipment should be selected and used. This course will provide delegates with the knowledge and practical experience to enable them to work safely at height using a variety of basic systems and techniques.

  • Working at Height regulations and associated legislation.
  • Working at Height hierarchy
  • Selection of equipment for Working at Height
  • Understanding of risk assessments
  • Table Top Exercise Hazard Identification - spot the problems and identify Working at Height hazards
  • Rooftops, Fragile Surfaces - Identification of different types of structures and their inherent hazards.
  • Inspection of Work Equipment - The correct inspection procedures and frequencies required under LOLER
  • Continued Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) -  Explanation of the different types of PPE available
  • Emergency Arrangements - Identification of the legal requirement for emergency arrangements
  • Closed Courses will include Working at Height Policy
  • Practical Exercises and Observational Assessment
  • End of course Written Assessment - 20 question multiple choice paper with a pass mark of 75%

  • Checking and fitting a working at height harness
  • Pre-use checks of fall arrest and fall restraint lanyards
  • Climbing and descending vertical ladders using Twin Lanyards
  • Selecting and using fall arrest and fall restraint equipment
  • Transferring from anchor points both vertical and horizontal
