6160-07 City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Direct Emergency Rescue and Recovery of Casualties from Confined Spaces

Course Duration: 1 day - 8 guided learning hours. Course starts at 09:00, finishes around 17:00

Course Locations: Aberdeen, Glasgow, Middlesbrough, Castleford, Manchester, Wellingborough, Rainham, Heathrow, Southampton and Exeter.

ESS are also able to offer Nationwide onsite Training subject to availability and necessary approvals.

Course Aims

This course is designed to introduce delegates to the basics of rescue and recovery of casualties from confined spaces. Understanding emergency arrangements as set by legislation and employers, some of the equipment required to rescue a casualty and safety of the rescue team.

Note: A pre-requisite qualification is required to complete this course. Delegates must hold a valid 6160-08 qualification.

  • Identifies the minimum first aid requirements of a rescue team
  • Introduction to further first aid that may be required by a rescue team
  • Duties of the rescue team members
  • Emergency arrangements and rescue planning
  • Recovery of a fallen team member
  • Understanding of risks put upon rescue team members
  • Understand and use reporting systems 
  • Explosive dangers from Gasses and safe use of gas monitors in a rescue scenario. 
  • Safe use Breathing Apparatus in an emergency and Rescue Stretchers
  • Pre use inspection & correct assembly of rescue equipment 
  • Demonstration of a recovery of a casualty using rescue techniques and equipment.

  • Pre-use checks and tests on various rescue equipment 
  • Donning, Doffing and using multiple Breathing apparatus to carry out a rescue
  • Systematic search of a tunnel system to locate a casualty 
  • Emergency arrangements including recovery of casualty and casualty care 
  • Use and application of equipment and procedures for High Risk and emergency arrangements and reporting systems.
