6160-05 City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Supervising Teams Undertaking Work in Confined Spaces

Course Duration: 2 days - 14 guided learning hours. Course starts at 09:00, finishes around 17:00

Course Locations: Aberdeen, Glasgow, Middlesbrough, Castleford, Manchester, Wellingborough, Rainham, Heathrow, Southampton and Exeter.

ESS are also able to offer Nationwide onsite Training subject to availability and necessary approvals.

Course Aims

This course is designed to provide delegates with enough understanding of Safe Systems of Work to be able to authorise works and issue permits. It identifies the employer’s responsibilities within their own policies to allocate duties to competent employees. To achieve this qualification the delegate must hold the level 2 qualification relevant to their own work environment including the use confined space equipment.

Note: A pre-requisite qualification is required to complete this course. Delegates must have completed a 6160-09 or 6160-03 course up to a maximum of 12 weeks prior.

  • An awareness of the Health & Safety requirements imposed on employers and employees under the Health and Safety at work act 1974 
  • Duties of the entrant, entry controller and the manager and the confined space ACOP 
  • The hazards associated with confined space working and the control measures required 
  • Understanding and creation of Risk assessments, Method Statements and Permit systems
  • The potential causes of emergencies and the emergency arrangements 
  • Safe use of equipment including Gas Monitor and EBA, fitting harnesses and access equipment.
  • Identification of hygiene, infection/disease and contamination procedures.

  • Supervision of safe usage of Confined space equipment including care and maintenance regimes including interpretation of data. 
  • Creation and Review of a Safe System of Work SSOW
  • An audit of a confined space entry
