OPERATIVE O1 - Signing, Lighting and Guarding (NOVICE)

This course is designed to provide delegates with the knowledge and skills required to select, install and monitor signing, lighting, and guarding of roadworks and temporary traffic management in compliance with regulations and approved practices. It is ideal for those responsible for ensuring safety and compliance on highways and roadworks sites.

  • Legislation and Regulations - Understanding the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) and Safety at Street Works and Road Works Code of Practice.
  • Roles and Responsibilities - Duties of operatives and supervisors in monitoring temporary traffic management.
  • Types of Signing, Lighting, and Guarding - Various setups for different road environments, including urban and rural locations.
  • Use of Risk Assessment and Site-Specific Survey to identify and control risks and select appropriate Traffic Management system to ensure Compliance with Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual.
  • Pedestrian and Vehicular Access - Maintaining safe access for pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles.
  • Inspections and Common Faults - Identifying deficiencies and ensuring corrective action is taken.
  • Emergency Response Procedures and Post-Incident Reporting
