Predominantly used to determine in-situ shear strength of cohesive soils, the hand shear vane soil tester provides accurate and portable measurement applications on-site or in undisturbed samples in the laboratory. Equipped with either 19mm or 30mm diameter with optional extensions rods that screw into the rear of the torque head, enabling a penetration into undisturbed soil of 200mm.

The Hand Shear Vane Soil Tester comprises a torque head with a direct reading scale for efficient measurements, which can be turned by hand. Measurements are indicated with an easily visible non-return pointer, the unit is specifically adapted to present a conversion factor to B.S. 1377 Vane Test results on the dial.

The shear vane test is a technique for determining a cohesive soil's undrained shear strength. The test is conducted using apparatus that consists of a rod that is placed into the ground and spun while having vanes attached on it.

How do you use a hand vane tester?

The Hand Vane Tester's base is fastened with a 19mm vane blade, and the vane is pressed into the ground. When the dirt fails, just turn the torque head once per minute and take a reading from the face.
