The Leica DD220 smart locator can be configured to start in the last mode of use or to default to Power mode ready to detect signals radiating off electrical power cables.  The locators automatic pinpointing combined with a numeric signal strength indicator help to increase the accuracy of utility mark ups and provide an additional layer of safety.  This means there is no need to manual adjust a sensitivity control to determine the utilities position or run the risk or missing utilities if the sensitivity control is set to low.  Irrespective of scan mode the automatic pinpoint and numeric signal strength indicator help to improve accuracy, keeping operators safe and alert to other utilities that might be within the scan area.  The configurable pre use test, system diagnostics and usage alerts are designed to increase operator confidence and safety throughout use.  
To further improve and promote correct product use the Leica DD220 Smart Locators on board GPS and memory records where and how the scan process has been conducted.  This data can be downloaded using Leica DX Software via Bluetooth or USB facilitating operator trend analysis for product use improvement or to understand scan events prior to utility damage.  Frequently it is discovered that improvements can be made by promoting the use of the Leica DA230 or DD220 Signal transmitter, this is strongly recommended by the manufacturer as well as health and safety guidance HSG47 Avoiding Dangers from underground services.  The use of a signal transmitter also means the operator can ascertain the utility depth when selecting from the locators 8kHz or 33kHz or 131kHz settings.  The Li Ion battery pack provides the operator with the latest power source helping to improve in field product use and convenience, whilst providing you with a greener solution to disposable alkaline batteries.  Whether you are working on a construction site, the side of the road or Network Rail the Leica DD220 Smart locator will help you to avoid utility damage when breaking ground.
