Overview

The ESS Managed Service team was approached at short notice to support critical works taking place within Morley Tunnel. The project involved a 15-day midweek blockade, requiring a significant amount of equipment and a robust tunnel communication system to ensure safe and efficient operations throughout the duration of the works.

The Challenge

Just one week before the start of the blockade, ESS was contacted by the customer to provide full support, including tunnel communications. However, all TunnelMesh communication systems, the ESS usual solution for tunnel environments were already deployed on other active projects.

With limited time and high safety requirements, the challenge was clear, how can ESS provide a reliable, compliant and effective tunnel communication system without delay?

The ESS Response

Demonstrating the agility and commitment of the Managed Service team, ESS quickly mobilised resources to identify and deploy an alternative communications solution. After assessing the site requirements and operational needs, the team sourced and implemented the Leaky Feeder communication system.

This system offered the performance and resilience required for the harsh tunnel environment, ensuring continuous, clear communication between work teams throughout the project duration.

Outcome

ESS’s ability to react rapidly and adapt to changing circumstances, meant the Morley Tunnel works commenced as planned, without disruption to the customer’s schedule.
